Snickometer

Invented by Allan Plaskett, the Snickometer is used to detect the edges of the bat using a microphone placed near the stumps. For example, a woody sound has a frequency different from that of the ball that hits the glove. It’s intelligent to detect the different sounds.

Is Li-fi going to overtake Wi-fi?

Wifi a technology which has been in our household, offices, malls and many places we visit in our day to day life has found a big brother to its help it’s know as Li-Fi. Li-Fi is a two-way wireless communication technology, high speed and completely network-like Wi-Fi. The term was invented by Harald Haas, and is a form of optical wireless communications (OWC) and uses visible spectrum, as well as ultraviolet and infrared radiation, it’s currently being developed by many organizations around the world.

Li-Fi is a visible light communication (VLC) system. This means that it receives a photodetector (photodiode) for receiving light signals and a signal processing element for converting the data into viewable content. An LED bulb is a semiconductor light source, which means that the constant current of electricity supplied to an LED bulb can be dipped and dimmed, from top to bottom at extremely high speeds, without being visible to naked eye.

For example, the data is inserted into an LED bulb (with the signal processing technology), then sends data (integrated into its beam) at high speed to the photodetector.

Small changes in the rapid attenuation of LED bulbs are converted by the “receiver” into an electrical signal.The signal is converted back into a sequence of binary data that we would recognize as web, video, and audio applications that run on the Internet available devices.

Li-Fi has the advantage of being useful in electromagnetic sensitive areas such as aircraft cabins, hospitals and nuclear power plants without causing electromagnetic interference. Both Wi-Fi as Li-Fi transmitted data across the electromagnetic spectrum, but while Wi-Fi uses radio waves, the Li-Fi uses visible light, ultraviolet light and infrared. The Federal Communications Commission has warned us that Wi-Fi connection is close to its maximum capacity, Li-Fi almost has no capacity limitations. The spectrum of visible light is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio frequency spectrum.The researchers obtained data rates of more than 224 Gbit /s, which is much faster than broadband as of 2013. It is expected that Li-Fi is 10 times cheaper than Wi-Fi.

Short range, low reliability and high installation costs are possible drawbacks, but it has the advantages which convinces us that this is going to be a future technology which will be used in many places for its edge and will be a technology for the coming years.

The world is taking a big leap with (AI) Artificial Intelligence and (ML) Machine Learning to the next level of technology. The voice becomes the main interface, it involves many technologies that we use on a daily basis, such as our devices, cars and mobile apps. We can turn off the lights, order our favorite food, buy our weekly groceries or listen to our favorite albums while using one of the most natural interfaces of all. Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant and other A.I based chatbots. They provide unsatisfactory interactions that are far from being able to hold a conversation with a real-life human assistant.

Autonomous Car – A Self Driving Car Technology.

After the years of Hearings, inquiries and decision making, Autonomous vehicles are finally real and on the roads now.

Now, it has been officially entered the era of level four autonomy for self-driving cars.

In the United States, the general public have the opportunity to ride through a half-mile stretch of Las Vegas in a new shuttle built by French AI company Navya. The shuttle is autonomous. It does not have a steering wheel or brake pedal. It is operated by the American Automobile Association (AAA) nonprofit organization, as part of an initiative to help spread positive knowledge of technology.

The vehicle has a top speed of 40 km / h (25 mph), but will probably only run at 16-32 km / h (10-15 mph), so it will not win any races. It communicates with traffic lights and is guided by GPS and a camera system. It will carry up to 11 passengers at a time and the rides are free.

Jorge Cervantes, director of operations and development for the city of Las Vegas, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

“This is the next step to see if autonomous vehicles have a conflict with real-time traffic, which will help us determine if this technology can be implemented in the long run.”

The achievement of level four autonomy was a big success and both Waymo and Navya should be proud to make history. At level four, a vehicle does not need a steering wheel or pedals; It can work to its full functionality without human being inside. The next step, level five, would involve a vehicle that does not need to connect to the cloud, GPS, traffic network or any other form of external information.

Currently, vehicles on US roadways are operated without any human direction at all. Of course, safety measures are in place, and in these continuous tests, people are inside the vehicles in case it is necessary to press an “extraction” button.

For all those who have waited impatiently for the future, when artificial intelligence would become so advanced that we could achieve truly driverless cars.
